Chao Lee Art Foundation is delighted to host an exclusive conversation featuring two of Britain’s celebrated contemporary portrait painters, Tai-Shan Schierenberg and Ishbel Myerscough, on *November 2nd* at *Louis Koo Cinema*, Hong Kong Arts Centre.
Tai-Shan Schierenberg (b. 1961) is renowned for his expressive landscapes and portraits, capturing profound emotions within the subjects’ gazes. His notable commissions include HRH Queen Elizabeth II, Professor Stephen Hawking, and poet-playwright Seamus Heaney. In 1989, he was awarded the John Player Portrait Award by the National Portrait Gallery in London. Schierenberg also serves as a presenter and judge on Sky Arts' Portrait Artist of the Year. He divides his time between London, Norfolk, and the Black Forest in South West Germany.
Ishbel Myerscough (b. 1968) received the BP Portrait Award from the National Portrait Gallery in 1995. Her distinctive, highly detailed self-portraits and meticulous studies of friends and family have led to public commissions, including works for actress Helen Mirren and opera singer Sir Willard White. Myerscough has exhibited at prestigious venues such as the National Portrait Gallery and the Royal Academy in London. She currently resides and works in London.
This event presents a unique opportunity for Hong Kong’s art community to engage with contemporary portraiture. Students, art enthusiasts, and art professionals will gain valuable insights into the artists’ creative processes and their experiences in navigating the art world.
