Hong Kong International Shakespeare Performance Exchange
Tang Shu-wing Theatre Studio brings a special presentation to you all - ‘Hong Kong International Shakespeare Performance Exchange’, featuring the Hong Kong premiere of two overseas creations - “Hamlet” (dance drama) and “Romeo and Juliet” (drama) – by Hong Kong casts. Alongside the festival’s associate programme created and presented by Passoverdance, “The Taming of the Shrew”, the programmes will be staged in the Hong Kong Arts Centre and the Hong Kong Cultural Centre for three consecutive weeks in August.
Hong Kong International Shakespeare Performance Exchange: “Hamlet”
imPerfect Dancers Company’s choreographic language is intensely physical and athletic. All their work seeks to create an emotional connection with the audience. Hamlet is a drama about life and death, offering the audience a journey through the darkest alleys of the human soul. Our heroine, a mentally unstable young woman, identifies herself with her namesake, Shakespeare’s Ophelia. Reading Hamlet, she tries to understand what happened to her. Words take shape, characters come alive and through the story told by Shakespeare, Ophelia relives the dramatic events of her own life.

Hong Kong International Shakespeare Performance Exchange: “Romeo and Juliet”
Projecte Ingenu is a Barcelona-based theatre research group. They wanted to build a space of “rest” - with the aim of merging professional work with personal development and investigation of a possible model of contemporary actor. Differing from the original tragic setting, Romeo & Juliet is a playful comedy full of youthful energy. This unique performance merges various performing elements. Performers convert quotidian objects into scenography in a simply but interesting way. It’s the first time for audience to watch this classical tragedy with laughter!
