There’s a theory that we should be born with a small amount of alcohol in our blood, and that modest inebriation opens our minds to the world around us, diminishing our problems and increasing our creativity. Heartened by that theory, Martin and three of his friends, all weary high school teachers, embark on an experiment to maintain a constant level of intoxication throughout the workday. If Churchill won WW2 in a heavy daze of alcohol, who knows what a few drops might do for them and their students?
Initial results are positive, and the teachers’ little project turns into a genuine academic study. Both their classes and their results continue to improve, and the group feels alive again! As the units are knocked back, some of the participants see further improvement and others go off the rails. It becomes increasingly clear that while alcohol may have fueled great results in world history, some bold acts carry consequences.

On the eve of the Pacific War. Their fates forever changed. The year is 1940 in Kobe, the night before the outbreak of World War II. Local merchant, Yusaku Fukuhara (Issey Takahashi), senses that things are headed in an unsettling direction. He leaves his wife Satoko (Yu Aoi) behind and travels to Manchuria with his nephew, Fumio Takeshita (Ryota Bando). There, Yusaku coincidentally witnesses a barbarous act and is determined to bring it to light. He leaps into action. Meanwhile, Satoko is called on by her childhood friend and military policeman, Taiji Tsumori (Masahiro Higashide). He tells Satoko that a woman who her husband brought back from Manchuria has died. Satoko is torn by jealousy and confronts Yusaku. But when she discovers Yusaku’s true intentions, she does the unthinkable to ensure his safety and their happiness. Set in a turbulent war-torn time, what destiny could possibly await Satoko and Yusaku?

An unpopular screenwriter, Gota, and his wife, Chika, have been married for ten years with a daughter between them. Gota earns a paltry $5,000 a year and is a pathetically poor family breadwinner. As such, he is constantly being berated and belittled by Chika. He yearns to restore a normal sex with his wife, but she rebuffs him and forces him to suffer in frustrated silence. And then a big opportunity arrives to turn things around. One of the plots he has been developing based on an actual news story gets noticed, and a request comes in for him to parlay it into a screenplay. But with no guarantee that anything will come of it, Gota hasn’t the funds nor a driver’s license to get him to locations requiring story research and development. So he persuades Chika to drive the family out into the countryside on ostensibly a working vacation for three. But when they arrive at their destination, they all learn that the story is already being made into a film by somebody else. The family, having instantly lost the purpose for the trip, reluctantly continue their four-night, five-day excursion confined to inflicting misery upon each other. But can this shock family therapy bring newfound happiness to the family?

Undine (Paula Beer) works in Berlin as a historian and guide to the city‘s development. She has a small apartment at Alexanderplatz, a master‘s degree in history, and a freelance contract. But underneath the appearance of her modern city life lurks an old myth: if the man Undine loves betrays her, she has to kill him and return to the water she once came from. So when her lover Johannes (Jacob Matschenz) leaves her for another woman, Undine thinks she has no choice – until in the moment of betrayal, she meets Christoph (Franz Rogowski), an industrial diver, and unexpectedly falls for him. This is a new, happy and innocent love filled with curiosity and trust. But when Christoph starts to feel that Undine is running away from something, she has to face her curse once and for all. She doesn‘t want to lose this love.
