The exhibition opens from 10th December 2016 to 4th January 2017 (10am – 8pm) at Comix Home Base, 7 Mallory Street, Wan Chai, Hong Kong.

“Comix Home Base: Tribute to Masters Series” was initiated by the Hong Kong Arts Centre in 2013. By presenting the programmes that are perfect for all ages, the series aims to honour Hong Kong comic masters and their classic works, to connect the community and to inspire the development of local arts. In the exhibition, INDULGING IN IMAGINATION - EXHIBITION OF OLD MASTER Q’ S COMICS WORKS, we pay tribute to “Wong Chak”, the author of the household name Old Master Q.

Created by the local comics master Alphonso Wong (well-known by his pen name Wong Chak, taken from the Chinese name of his eldest son), the all-time classic comic series Old Master Q has enjoyed popularity for decades. Wong started the series in the 1960s when Hong Kong went up in the world, and passed his work to his eldest son Joseph Wong, who has taken up his father’s passion and continued creating the comic in Taiwan since the 1990s. Not only have the characters and its dramatic narrative style been retained throughout the series, Old Master Q has also kept up with the times and continued to surprise the public. Drawing with a Chinese calligraphy brush, the authors use precisely their advanced artistic skills to tell simple but hilarious stories with a unique sense of humour, reflecting the trials and tribulations of times and the spectrum of life experiences.

The exhibition INDULGING IN IMAGINATION – EXHIBITION OF OLD MASTER Q’ S COMICS WORKS shares different sides of Old Master Q through diverse themes and sections. In addition to some precious, never-before-seen manuscripts from the 1960s, new installations and interactive games designed exclusively for this exhibition will also be displayed. Moreover, Hong Kong artist anothermountainman will reinterpret the fun and joy of Old Master Q in his unique way. Visitors can expect shuttling back and forth between the comic worlds created by the two “Wong Chaks”, while experiencing different facets of lives in Hong Kong recorded and shared by Old Master Q. The comics has accompanied countless Hongkongers during their formative years and is now a collective memory of Chinese-speaking communities around the world. The comics’ unique nature and sense of humour have punctuated generations, ages, and geographical and cultural differences to touch the readers. Let’s indulge in imagination with Old Master Q and other distinctive characters!

To give the visitors a refreshing experience, side events such as the artist talk given by Joseph Wong and anothermountainman, free outdoor screenings of Old Master Q films every weekend during the exhibition period, as well as guided tours will be arranged to bring visitors the spirit of imagination in a delightful way, and to discover the endless joy of Old Master Q.
