The works of renowned playwright Raymond To Kwok-wai have received numerous awards and commendations, among which The Mad Phoenix, Hu Du Men and A Sentimental Journey are some of his most notable classics. Coincidentally, the theme of the works above revolved around Cantonese Opera. The screening of To’s works presented by HKAF allows the public to relive his masterpieces as well as understand his long-lasting association with Cantonese Opera.

Hu Du Men (1996) Screening

Lang Kim-sum is a veteran Cantonese Opera actress who has been acting for more than 30 years. However, her husband wishes to emigrate due to a failure in his career. She is on the verge of giving up on her almost life-long career as a performer while dealing with problems from her family and colleagues.

The Chinese Opera technical term for stage entrance is used as the title of the film, allowing the audience to follow the actors and actresses on screen, experiencing their Hu Du Men at different stages of life.
