【Hong Kong Arts Centre】and【Kung Music Workshop】 have been sharing the passion for music since 2009, co-presenting the Street Music Series to bring quality music to audiences. Since 2013, thanks to the support of The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, the project has been expanded to become the “Jockey Club Street Music Series”. Apart from bringing free music concerts to different neighborhoods in Hong Kong, the Series also organizes in-school music tours and music workshops, aiming to nurture a new generation of music talents.

On 21 October 2017, we will celebrate the 100th street concert at the Main Entrance of Hong Kong Arts Centre. Along with the Hong Kong violist Born Lau and local band The Majestic G, the concert will also feature the music duo Odd Beholder and electronic rock band RizzoKnor from Zurich, Switzerland. The sound of Odd Beholder’s electro-pop music is poetic and described as a “lucid dream”; while RizzoKnor is known for its unique style of blending techno, rock and psychedelic music, leading audience into frenetic dancing. The concert will definitely be a memorable evening of music.

About Performers

Born Lau

Violist Born Lau has appeared internationally as both a soloist and chamber musician.  2017-2018 season highlights include a concerto appearance with the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia, concerts at the Kuhmo Chamber Music Festival in Finland, and various chamber concerts in Thailand. .  Born Lau has appeared at the Yellow Barn and Sarasota Music festivals, Perlman Music Program, and at Switzerland’s Verbier Festival Academy. He served as Principal Violist of the Curtis Symphony Orchestra, as well as Guest Principal Violist of San Diego Symphony in the 2012-2013 season.

The Majestic G

The Majestic G is an original funk/soul/experimental music group, their members are all active music veterans in Hong Kong, spanning across a wide music spectrum including pop, jazz, soul, funk, rock, classical music, and traditional Chinese music.

Odd Beholder

Odd Beholder was founded in a bomb shelter in Dietikon. The duo develops their music from miniatures. Their debut EP "Lighting" features choir arrangements that range over three octaves and eerie field recordings. Their live sound is characterized by minimalistic drum programming and analogue synth sounds. The video for their single "Landscape Escape" was shot by the Berlin film maker Grambow + Kirchknopf in collaboration with the Azerbaijan Social & Modern Dance Association. Odd Beholder were signed by Mouthwatering Records in 2016.

RizzoKnor

Formerly known as “The Grateful Dead of Disco”, RizzoKnor, seamlessly cross-breeds techno, rock’n’roll and psychedelic influences into an almost ritualistic show. 10 years ago they discovered an untouched path at the intersection of electronic and psychedelic spheres.

Like modern alchemists, Daniel, Dominique and Georg have cemented their unique brand of krauttechno over years of live experiments. Composition is seamlessly mixed with improvisation, repetitive riffs are entangled to modulating melodies that build towards epic musical gestures.
