The CREATORS FOR TOMORROW initiative, launched by the Hong Kong Arts Centre (HKAC) in 2020, nurtures and supports emerging artists and curators in Hong Kong. It provides practical experiences in program planning, creation, and execution, helping participants launch their professional careers in the arts.

To ensure sustainable development, HKAC has initiated the group exhibition To Morrow and Beyond. It enhances exposure for the awardees of the 1st and 2nd editions, witnesses their growth in the art industry, and fosters knowledge exchange among participants.

What will we experience until tomorrow or beyond?

In the face of rapid technological advancements and the impact of the pandemic, we have witnessed significant changes in people's lives. As we adapt to this new reality, we explore alongside the new generation of creators. This exhibition features the recent works of eight awardees from the past two editions of CREATORS FOR TOMORROW, showcasing how they navigate the new normal of the art world through their creations and researches. They explore the poetic and picturesque aspects of daily life, city corners, history, and mythology; deconstruct traditional concepts using technology and media, presenting their visions for "post-humanity" and the future; and engage in contemporary visual culture research, providing valuable inspiration for the industry.

Peer of Cross-disciplinary Creation

Artists face challenges and needs in their creative process. Mark Rothko, an abstract master, once described art creation as a lonely road. Balancing personal expression and curatorial considerations is a difficult issue for emerging artists.

The Hong Kong Arts Centre supports cross-media art creation and provides platforms for innovation. We accompany local emerging talents on their artistic journey, offering various spaces like the Pao Galleries, Diana Cheung Experimental Gallery, Louis Koo Cinema, and Shouson Theatre for interdisciplinary events. We also encourage bold innovation and maximises the building's space.

To continuously stay in touch with industry needs and art trend, this joint exhibition is specially curated for Art March, which showcases the works of CREATORS FOR TOMORROW, allowing industry professionals to witness the creators' collective growth.

Participating Artists (In alphabetical order):

André Chan Tsz Ching studied curation and East Asian studies in London and Toronto and co-founded Arts Collective. Being the curatorial director for the 2021 edition of Art Central, he worked in several international galleries and produced various exhibitions worldwide. His research focuses on artists' practices in response to contemporary city issues and the fallacy of the contemporary tech world. At the same time, he is also interested in the history of the modern ink movement in Hong Kong. 

Cheng Chi Chi is a multidisciplinary artist from Hong Kong with a background in neuroscience, also trained as a yoga teacher in Tamil Nadu, India. She is interested in exploring the intersections between neuroscience, policy making, medicine, law and ethics.

Dave Chow Yui Wang is a mixed media artist based in Hong Kong. He graduated from the Academy of Visual Arts, Hong Kong Baptist University, receiving his bachelor’s degree in 2015. His works display and distill his everyday experience through appropriating, transforming and assembling ready-made objects. His works were also shown in various exhibitions, including splendor of the sun (Galerie du Monde, Hong Kong, 2023), Proper Weight (Fo Tan, Hong Kong, 2022), Hope all is well with you (1a space, Hong Kong 2021), soundpocket: 10 YEARS OF ASP (Fu Lee Loy Shopping Centre, Hong Kong, 2021)

Zoie Yung Wing Yi, is an independent exhibition and art-marketing consultant and former exhibition manager of chi K11 art museum, Shanghai. She is one of the awardees of The HKADC Arts Administration Scholarships 2022 and studied for an MA in Museum Studies at the University of Leicester. She provides a unique approach to exhibition production by combining practice in exhibition spatial arrangement and her knowledge of Chinese astrology. Apart from exhibition production, she hosts public engagement programs and contributes art articles to magazines.

Epical Chamber is founded by Leung Ka Man and Ocean Leung Yu Tung. The duo combines poetry and stories to reflect on contemporary life's fleeting and fragmented facets. Leung Ka Man's paintings, videos and mixed media, poeticised texts, fabricated scenarios and juxtapositions of daily images, probe into the ambiguous everyday emotions. Ocean Leung's work includes objects, installations, and videos. Through investigation and intervention, he aims to portray a sense of visual disruption.

Avery Lau Hong Lam's practice focuses on intaglio and the classical technique of mezzotint in printmaking. Lau’s works use still life as his genre, mythology as his background; combining with classical intaglio, his works create a harmonious and tranquil atmosphere. He likes to use symbols and puns to express his interpretation and experience to the world and daily life. In his works, the general compositions convey a relaxed and humorous daily life. Under his works, the details and depictions of objects keep the secrets out of the daily.

Connie Lo creates interdisciplinary art that explores how visuals and space elicit auditory response, and the subtle relationship between our spatial, visual and auditory senses. Her practice springs from her personal life, as she often draws inspiration from intimate experiences, as well as the relationship between the individual and the outside world. Her work has been exhibited in Hong Kong, Japan, and the UK.

Tang Kwong San's practice combines photographs, drawings, objects and videos that trace intergenerational memories and social history, aiming to explore the complex connections between longing, loss and belonging.

Yuen Nga Chi draws inspiration from the contradiction between living conditions and working experience. In recent years, she has mainly explored the state of captive animals and the relationship between humans from historical, geographical, and political perspectives. 

Wong Winsome Dumalagan mainly works on videography and the sculpting of images. Through moving along with the camera, composing and sculpting the texture and rhythm of the images, she believes that helps guide one to step into daily life and comprehend it. Thus, most of her work is about the every day, created in the different cultural contexts she inhabits.
