Mirage - Works by KONGKEE
There is a place – the place KONGKEE (Kong Khong-chang) grew up – where some called it a borrowed place on borrowed time. This raises the questions of who is the lender and who is the borrower. As for people living in this place, which side are they belong to?
The lender could not collect what has lost; the borrower could not return what he has not possessed
Mirage is made up of shorts setting on this borrowed city, with characters looking for their answers. Who then actually do have the true memory?
This series of creations by animator KONGKEE, as his first thought, came from his own nostalgia. Only then did he come to realize that we are living in a world with daily memory-losing stories performing.

VR x Contemporary Dance - "PROLOGUE: THE FATE OF ASSASSINS" in Stuttgart
Director: Haze Tsui
Choreographer & Performer: Cliff Huen Tin Yeung
26. Internationales Trickfilm-Festival 2019 Festival of Animated Film
30/4-5/5 Kunstmuseum Stuttgart, 5pm
Prologue: The Fate of Assassins is based on Dragon's Delusion, a comic by KONGKEE (Kong Khong Chang). Dragon's Delusion is a sci-fi revisionist take on a piece of classical Chinese literature, Encountering Sorrow. The Poem expresses the sorrow and helplessness of Qu Yuan the poet parting with a dying kingdom. In this reinvention, the poet appears in the memories of an android, Joe, who lives a low life in the futuristic city of Hong Kong. Haunted by these sudden memories, Joe embarks on a journey to search for his true self. And he didn't know he was pulled into a secret mission of assassinating Emperor Qin.
Prologue: The Fate of Assassins is a side story about the assassination attempt. With the plan of pretending a performer in front of Emperor Qin. One step closer, one step towards the accomplishment.
When an animator meets a choreographer, the former seeks to expand the realm of storytelling by bringing in the latest technology, virtual reality, into a performance. It raised the tough question of the liveness of the performance when the dance is actually appearing in a virtual landscape.
Also recalling the conflicts between Reality vs. Delusion...
