Sonic Anchor 43: Un/in-strumental features a return of “instruments” on the stage of this series. Luk Long Man, an erhuist and sound artist, joined by Szeto Kin, also an erhuist, reflects on their teaching notes from a series of interactions with their students. The performance is inspired by these notes, practice exercises and the notion of questioning the boundaries of erhu teaching. OTP (one time password) ****is a group formed during the Push the ENVELOPE Sound Art Initiative camp in August 2023. The bonding of the group was developed through a discovery of mutual interests: Fluxus-inspired, improvisational and instruction-based performances. Their structured improvisation involves some button pressing, some instrument playing, and maybe your involvement - wait for the instruction.

▎Luk Long Man
After exploring various music genres as an erhuist, I have been constantly reflecting on how music culture shapes identity. The love-hate relationship with erhu drove me towards the expansive realm of computer music and the practice of deep listening, which inspired me to create *Birdsongs, an* audiovisual performance for erhu in 2023. Master of Fine Art in Creative Media, City University of Hong Kong (2024)

▎Szeto Kin
DMA in Orchestral Conducting, University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music and former Huqin musician with the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra. In 2017, he was awarded the Hong Kong Scholarship for Excellence Scheme to pursue further studies in the United States, and achieved second place in the Orchestra's Conductor Competition in Romania in 2022. With a unique background in both Chinese and Western music, he is dedicated to bridge the two traditions and to explore the aesthetic possibilities that arise from their convergence.

▎OTP
OTP (one time password) is an avant-garde artist group born out of the creative chaos at the renowned sound art camp, Push the ENVELOPE Sound Art Initiative, in 2023. United by their passion for experimental sound, DIY electronics and the manipulation of everyday objects, the members of OTP have embarked on a sonic journey that defies conventions and pushes the boundaries of artistic expression.

Drawing inspiration from the Fluxus movement, OTP combines elements of DIY electronics, found objects, and Fluxus instructions to create immersive soundscapes that challenge the listener's perception and invite them to explore new realms of auditory experience.

The group's artistic process is deeply collaborative, with each member contributing their unique skills and perspectives to the creation of their sonic compositions. They embrace a playful and experimental approach, utilizing unconventional techniques and unconventional instruments to create their distinctive sound.

The group line up includes:
Oskar on DIY electronics, samplers, DJ turntable *
Yu on synth, flute *
Davis on DIY electronics, electronic Instruments *
Michael on guitar, everyday objects *
