Let the feverish passion for comics burn worldwide!
What support the comics artists’ continuous works are their passion, their feverish passion. The unlimited desire for creation in their brains is what contributed to titles after titles of great stories and make readers themselves burning with passion too.
Under the theme “FEVER”, the project will spread the burning hot feverish passion of Hong Kong comic artists to inspire more like-minded souls. The artistic levels of up-and-coming comics artists will also be raised through the exchange with local and overseas comic practitioners.
The first phase of the project will be held in the 47th Angouleme International Comics Festival (the Festival) from 30 January to 2 February 2020. Three Hong Kong artists Kwong-shing Lau, Chi-tak Li and Yanai have successfully cooperated with European publishing houses for launching the respective French version of their comics. They will release the works at the Festival and conduct live drawing demonstrations, so as to let comic fans around the world feel their feverish passion. Moreover, Hong Kong Arts Centre will participate in the International Rights and Licensing Market with the works of 30 Hong Kong comics artists. Two comics professionals will also showcase the comics under their management to actively seek overseas cooperation opportunities for Hong Kong comics artists.
Two emerging Hong Kong comics artists Moses Hei-lun Iu and Bonnie Pang will also be invited to visit the Festival. They will bring along their own works to participate in the professional commentary events organised by the Festival, so as to learn and grow in this comics superpower.
The second phase of the project will be a six-month comics master class and a comics festival back in Hong Kong in September, inviting overseas comics artists and professionals to Hong Kong for live drawing demonstrations and a series of exchange activities with local up-and-coming comics artists, influencing each other with a fever for comics.
Live Drawing Demonstrations
If anyone want to know how skilled our comics artists are, you only need to give them a try!
Three Hong Kong comics artists, Kwong-shing Lau, Chi-tak Li, and Yanai, will conduct live drawing demonstrations at the Angoulême International Comics Festival in France.
Come to feel the feverish passion of the comics artists and their virtuoso at live drawing!

About the Organiser
Hong Kong Arts Centre
The destination for arts and creative inspirations in Hong Kong.
Established in 1977, Hong Kong Arts Centre (HKAC) is the first independent non-profit multi-arts institution that stimulates innovation and promotes creativity. HKAC fosters artistic exchanges locally and internationally, bringing the most forward looking creations to Hong Kong and showcasing homegrown talent abroad. In the past four decades, HKAC has been dedicated to fostering the growth of the local art scene as well as facilitating cultural exchanges between Hong Kong and the rest of the world. Aiming to make art accessible to a wider audience, HKAC has presented diverse programmes covering performing arts, visual arts, film and video arts, public arts, arts education, and more.
HKAC's education arm, the Hong Kong Art School (HKAS), was founded in 2000 as an accredited institute. The School is staffed by a group of dedicated artists with the first and foremost aim of fostering new talents for the local art scene. At the juncture of its 40th anniversary, HKAC launched a rebranding and renovation project to strengthen its core concept of 'Arts at the Centre', and continue to promote locally and internationally the development of Asian contemporary arts.
Dedicated to promoting comics and animation arts and culture since 2006, HKAC has presented a diverse array of comics and animation-related programmes in different parts of the world, e.g. the Mainland China, France, Japan, Finland, to list a few. From 2013 to 2018, HKAC was also the operator of the Comix Home Base (CHB) which was the first and leading arts community for comics, animation and related media in Hong Kong. The CHB breathed new life into Hong Kong’s comics and animation scene by fostering the city’s comics and animation culture. In recent years, HKAC has been proactive in promoting Hong Kong comics to the international market.

Comix Home Base
Hong Kong Arts Centre (HKAC) believes that comics and animation are important local pop culture and artistic creations. Since 2006, HKAC has been dedicated to planning and organising diverse and unique activities to promote the arts and culture of comics and animation to the local community and abroad.
The first large-scale comics and animation project was the Comix Home Base (CHB) – a series of exhibitions held at the art gallery. Since then, HKAC has been working hard to establish an extensive network and creative exchange platforms for local creators. From 2009 to 2013, HKAC held different touring exhibitions such as Kaleidoscope: History of Hong Kong Comics and Comix and the City, aiming to expand the overseas market of Hong Kong's comics and animation. From 2013 to 2018, HKAC has successfully transformed one of the Urban Renewal Authority's Grade II historic buildings into the ‘Comix Home Base’ — the first arts community in Hong Kong that was used to promote comics, animation and other related media. With more than 1 million visitors in five years, CHB has significantly energised the ani-com art scene in Hong Kong. As one of HKAC’s flagship projects, CHB returned to the HKAC main building in August 2018 to extend the range of ani-com-related art projects and maximise its impact that the HKAC has presented since 2006.
Through the CHB, HKAC has hosted over 500 ani-com-related events, such as exhibitions, talks, workshops, performances, publications, screenings, public arts, etc. Outside Hong Kong, the footprints of Hong Kong comics can be found overseas in France, Belgium, Britain, Germany, Finland, Sweden, Japan, Singapore, among other places, as well as the Mainland China and Taiwan. Through the uniquely planned programmes, several Hong Kong comics artists have got chances to initiate international collaborations in publishing their comics in foreign languages in Europe. These all made an impact on the international comics scene and help to raise the profile of Hong Kong comics internationally.
In the future, HKAC and CHB will continue to proactively look for opportunities to promote Hong Kong's diverse comics and animation arts, with the aim of increasing international recognition and awareness of Hong Kong’s comics artists and their unique works.
