Jockey Club ICH+ Innovative Heritage Education Programme - Pass it On Course

Lingnan University and Hong Kong Art School (a division of Hong Kong Arts Centre) are jointly launching a series of education programme to cultivate the knowledge and theory, skillset, as well as the contemporary revitalization of the city’s ICH in local junior secondary school students and the general mass of Hong Kong.

“Pass it On” is part of the education programme which brings together traditional learning from ICH masters, and transformative learning and application of ICH conducted by contemporary ICH practitioner, with academic support from LU.

RECRUITMENT

We are now seeking working adults and art practitioners who are passionate about traditional crafts and art to join us in exploring a new and spectacular way of learning, and gain more in-depth knowledge of ICH.

After the course, participants will be invited to be an intern in the next phase of the Programme, and will be offered a position as assistant instructor. A full reimbursement of the tuition fee will be offered to those who complete the internship and meet the requirements. They will become master trainers in the following phase, where they will take on the role of conducting workshops of their specialty.

Content of Course:

Shiwan Pottery Making Technique	Shiwan Pottery Making Technique originated from the traditional craft of Shiwan, Foshan. It primarily involves the creation of ceramic ornaments, utensils, and religious figurines using elements of human figures, plants, and animals. The production process includes clay preparation, hand kneading, coloring, pottery wheel throwing, turning, glaze coloration, and glaze polishing.
Hong Kong Cheongsam Making Technique (Advanced)	Cheongsam is a tailored traditional Chinese dress for women. The process of making a cheongsam involves tailoring, sample making, cutting, ironing, pasting, fitting, attaching sleeves, and fastening buttons.
Seal Carving Technique	Seals are primarily made from materials such as stone, buffalo horn, and wood. They are carved with characters using techniques like engraving, chiseling, and carving. Seal script, also known as "zhuan shu," is the most commonly used script style for seals.

Duration	28 Oct 2023 – 28 Jul 2024 (Every SAT/SUN) *Shiwan Pottery Making Technique will start by 29 Oct 2023 (Except 23,24, 30, 31 Dec 2023, 10,11 Feb, 30,31 Mar 2024)
Time	Shiwan Pottery Making Technique - 3pm to 6pm Hong Kong Cheongsam Making Technique (Advanced) - 5pm to 8pm Seal Carving Technique - sem1: 2pm to 5pm, sem2: 4pm to 7pm, sem3: tbc

Jockey Club ICH+ Innovative Heritage Education Programme

The Jockey Club ICH+ Innovative Heritage Education Programme is funded by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, and is a collaboration between Lingnan University (LU) and Hong Kong Art School (a division of Hong Kong Arts Centre). The programme aims to preserve, promote, redefine and revitalize the Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) of Hong Kong by means of a holistic model that integrates Education, Revitalization and Investigation.

The Programme will engage traditional artisans, contemporary art practitioners and the general public of Hong Kong to collaborate and revive our ICH, reclaim cultural esteem of artisanship and hence, rediscover traditional values and local identity.
