The works of renowned playwright Raymond To Kwok-wai have received numerous awards and commendations, among which The Mad Phoenix, Hu Du Men and A Sentimental Journey are some of his most notable classics. Coincidentally, the theme of the works above revolved around Cantonese Opera. The screening of To’s works presented by HKAF allows the public to relive his masterpieces as well as understand his long-lasting association with Cantonese Opera.
A Sentimental Journey Screening
This drama presents the life of Cantonese Opera Maestros Yam Kim-fai, Pak Suet-sin and Tong Dik-sang during the 1950s and 60s. When the drama premiered in 1999, it was run for over 100 performances and received critical acclaim. Connie Chan Po-chu, actress for Yam Kim-fai and the only formal student of Yam was widely praised for her close resemblance of her teacher in her acting.
