Harbour Arts Sculpture Park
Hong Kong’s first international sculpture park brings art to the public on the city’s iconic harbourfront

22 February to 11 April 2018
Central and Western District Promenade

(HONG KONG) – Hong Kong’s first international sculpture park brings museum-quality works to the public, dramatically transforming the landscape of Central and Wan Chai Harbourfront.

Presented by Hong Kong Arts Centre with support from lead partner H Queen’s by Henderson Development Limited, Harbour Arts Sculpture Park (22 February to 11 April 2018) features sculptures by over 18 emerging and renowned local and international contemporary artists together – a first for the artists and the city. Curated by Fumio Nanjo, Director of Mori Art Museum and Director of International Programme at Hong Kong Art School, and Tim Marlow, Artistic Director at the Royal Academy of Arts, the free sculpture park offers a unique opportunity to experience world-class art set against the backdrop of Hong Kong’s iconic skyline.

Cementing Hong Kong’s position as a global arts player, public and private organisations have come together to exhibit sculptures in an accessible public space. In doing so, the city is ensuring that art is accessible to everyone in Hong Kong, enriching the cultural life of the public.

The exhibition is accompanied by the “Harbour Arts Sculpture Park” Jockey Club Arts Education Programme supported by lead education partner, The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust. It is a diverse and extensive programme of workshops and educational activities, with a goal to demonstrate that art is for all ages and interests.

The Hong Kong Arts Centre will also produce a dedicated mobile application with detailed information on each of the sculptures and a multilingual audio guide in Cantonese, English and Mandarin.

Connie Lam, Executive Director, Hong Kong Arts Centre, said: “Harbour Arts Sculpture Park brings two dreams together. More than 40 years ago, our founders envisioned the Hong Kong Arts Centre as a space to engage with art along the harbour. In 2005, our then Chairman, Cissy Pao Pui-lai, formed a new extension of Public Art Hong Kong and we launched the art symposium – “Soul of the City”, an international symposium with a focus on art and public space. Harbour Arts Sculpture Park makes two visions a reality while demonstrating how art can be part of our everyday lives.”

Rhoda Chan, Head of Charities (Grant Making – Sports, Recreation, Arts and Culture) of The Hong Kong Jockey Club said: “The Club’s Charities Trust has designated Arts, Culture and Heritage as one of our strategic focus areas for its donations. We are excited to be the sculpture park’s lead education partner and to support the ‘Harbour Arts Sculpture Park’ Jockey Club Arts Education Programme. Through the guided tours, workshops, talks and symposium, the Programme will help promote the appreciation and learning of arts and culture in Hong Kong as well as enhance accessibility of the arts at every level of the community.”

Kristine Li, Deputy General Manager of Henderson Land Development Company Limited said: “H Queen’s(HQ) is pleased to be the lead sponsor for the Harbour Arts Sculpture Park. We have long been dedicated to supporting the local art scene, and offering the public opportunities to engage with creative ideas right in the centre of Hong Kong. Following the Time & Scale during Art Basel’s Hong Kong show in 2016, where 10 Hong Kong artists transformed the hoarding of HQ, and our 2017 public digital art project Voyages, which showcased the works from outstanding multi-media artists represented by some of HQ's gallery tenants. This year, our gallery tenants have already started to open their doors at H Queen’s, and we are delighted to concurrently support this territory-wide sculpture park project, continue contributing to the annual arts month of Hong Kong, bringing more vitality and global attention to the Hong Kong art scene.”
