Not a Community Guided Tour
Go to the theatre
In April, artist Giraffe Leung presented his experimental project, Not a Community Guided Tour, at the Shouson Theatre, providing a unique experience for a diverse group of participants and observers. This time, the project will take place at the McAulay Studio, offering participants a new perspective on theatre.
Without a script, rehearsal, or actors, you will immerse yourself in the experience once entering the McAulay Studio. Participants are invited to engage in conversation on any topics that arise, collaboratively creating spontaneous art and collectively shaping the theme for the evening. It promises to be a night filled with possibilities, and an opportunity to rediscover theatre.
Not a Community Tour is an ongoing observation and experiment, a journey of exploration into the uncharted possibilities led by the artist and participants.
Giraffe, born in the 90s, started his experimental project, Not a Community Guided Tour, in 2021. Over the past 4 years, he has practiced this everyday life art experience in different places and venues. From an experimental project, to a graduation exhibition; from his art studio, to a century-old shop in Sha Tau Kok. He even brought this project to a hotel room in 2024 and turned the hotel bed into a picnic table.
Each time, Giraffe gathered a group of people with different backgrounds: clinical psychologist, animation director, art college student, civil servant, TV show Production Assistant, doctors, bank OL… During the programme, everyone expressed themselves freely and to look at the community from an artistic perspective. They noticed arts appear everywhere in daily life and discovered different possibilities of art.
“Although Hong Kong is small, it has a lot of people. Our social circles often revolve around people who are similar to us (in occupations/ interests), or voices that are similar to ours. So I have an idea, which is to try to connect different people in the form of a gathering and listen to other voices.” by Giraffe Leung.
