Summary

Associate Professor Drew Pettifer will discuss how his artistic practice, which stems from concerns around gender, archives and identity, has informed his approach to curating. He will present a range of different artistic and curatorial projects to elaborate on the ways in which his artwork and research intertwine with broader themes of the body, diversity and representation. His talk will include insights into the ways in which artists are well placed to develop curatorial practices and/or transition into arts management roles.

The talk will be followed by a workshop session where participants will use the earlier talk and discussion as inspiration to frame their own prospective curatorial practice, including experimenting with the creation of a hypothetical exhibition.

He has received several awards for his creative practice and been exhibited across Australia and internationally. His artworks are held in major public collections in Australia, including the National Gallery of Victoria, City of Melbourne, and Art Gallery of South Australia, as well as private collections nationally and internationally.
