ALL ABOUT US 2023/24 Creative Video Selection
7 commissioning short films open around the clock and can't wait for you to join us in celebrating creativity!
The ALL ABOUT US Creative Camp and Mentoring Programme has proudly presented seven extraordinary films! Four of these captivating pieces were developed by participants during an intensive two-day, one-night The ALL ABOUT US Creative Camp and Workshops held from August to November. Participants, many of whom were starting from ground zero, honed their skills in scriptwriting, storytelling, filmmaking, and post-production, resulting in truly inspiring outcomes. The joy of witnessing each film come to life has been unparalleled. Under the guidance of local professional filmmakers, four groups of participants, mentored by four talented local directors, explored a variety of genres, including thriller, documentary, comedy, and drama, showcasing their distinctive creativity and talent!
The first group created "Behind the Curtains," a chilling horror story, alongside a team of girls who shared a passion for fantasy narratives. The second group produced a documentary short titled "Cultural Mosaic: Echoes of Tomorrow," offering personal stories that deepen the audience's understanding of their experiences. The third group delivered a comedic gem, "Two Agents, One Masterpiece," filmed in just one day, brimming with humour and a delightful, chaotic shooting style. The fourth group, "Boundary," ventured to various filming locations, including the iconic Chungking Mansions and the tight spaces of Tung Chung's garage.
In a vibrant age of artistic expression, three fervent filmmakers from underrepresented communities have united to unveil a trio of uplifting cinematic gems. They took part in the ALL ABOUT US youth filmmaker short film initiative, where they were mentored by seasoned professionals and received production grants that ignited their imaginative spirits. These directors were deeply involved in every step of their creative journey—from brainstorming ideas to scriptwriting, casting, directing, and the final touches of post-production—benefiting from invaluable guidance and support along the way. Their films radiate warmth and sincerity, beautifully showcasing the rich tapestry of cultural diversity and personal narratives woven into their lives in Hong Kong.
From this collaboration, three unique stories have blossomed: Zeed, a young director from a minority background, presents "The Buraq that Can't Fly," a poignant tale of a young Muslim mother as she navigates her path of faith, love, and passion; Rizwan Rahman's "Interview With A Creep" humorously captures the awkward exchange between a struggling documentary filmmaker and an old acquaintance; while Ahmina Santiago Zaheer's "Dirt" delves into the profound journey of seeking inner forgiveness and redemption for someone with a troubled past.
Now, these seven commissioned masterpieces are available for all to enjoy online, as we expand the ALL ABOUT US Film Festival into the digital realm, inviting a broader audience to experience and celebrate these diverse voices at no cost!
