Creative Camps & Film Production

A creative video project dedicated to ethnic minorities in Hong Kong

This year, “All About Us 2012/13” recruited 40 participants, who are mostly from Nepal, India and Pakistan. Some of them are from Philippines, Sri Lanka, Japan, Vietnam, Bangladesh, Israel and England.

3-day-2-night Orientation and Creative Camp

Date: 2 – 4 November 2012 (Fri – Sun)

Venue: Wu Kwai Sha Youth Village, Ma On Shan

This camp aims to offer orientation to participants from different background as well as introduce the some concepts of video arts through a series of specially designed collaborative activities.

40 participants were divided into 6 groups They not only acquired some basic creative and filming skills and knowledge from 6 teaching artists who are the professional local filmmakers but also enjoyed the process of team building with the aid of social workers from the Life Workshop.

During the camp, they were encouraged to be creative. For example, in the learning activity of “A Chair is NOT a Chair”, participants had to be creative and act well in order to make “A Chair is NOT Chair”, “A pack of tissue is NOT a pack of tissue” and “A bottle of water is NOT a bottle of water” become TRUE! Some participants made a chair become a guitar, some made a pack of tissue as a mirror and some made a bottle of water as a mobile phone. In the practical exercise of “SHOT X SHOT”, participants had to shoot a story about the campsite using shots with different angles and scenes. They tried the taste of being directors, scriptwriters, actors and cameramen in this exercise.

I felt excited teaching these young people, particularly when I see their dedication and improvement in filming technique and aesthetic judgment.” – Adam Wong Sau Ping, Film Director

“Through taking part in the scheme and being an instructor, I got to spend time with so many ethnic minority youths. I felt they were all very smart and energetic, and enjoyed sharing ideas with one another.
