Hong Kong Art School Appoints Professor Mak Chan Shuk Yin Barley as Acting School Director

[Hong Kong – 8 July 2025] - The Hong Kong Art School (HKAS), a division of the Hong Kong Arts Centre (HKAC), is pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Mak Chan Shuk Yin Barley as the Acting Director of Hong Kong Art School, effective from 5 July 2025. This appointment follows the departure of Professor Man Kit Wah Eva and will continue until a new School Director is appointed.
 
As a council member of the Hong Kong Art School Council, Professor Mak brings a wealth of experience and expertise to her new role, particularly in the field of education. Professor Mak has served as the Associate College Head and Dean of Students of United College at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK).  Professor Mak is accomplished in research and development project management.  As the founding Director of the Centre for Enhancing English Learning and Teaching as well as the M.A. in English Language Teaching at the Faculty of Education, CUHK, Professor Mak has led various private and public funded educational projects locally and beyond. Her publications have appeared in many international referred journals.

HKAS would like to take this opportunity to extend its gratitude to Professor Man Kit Wah Eva for her leadership and contributions during her time with the School. She has demonstrated remarkable resilience and navigated challenges to the School during the time. 
 
Looking ahead, as HKAS celebrates its 25th anniversary, it will continue to serve as a premier arts educator by launching comprehensive educational programmes to address the growing demand for artistic talent in Hong Kong. With a strong 27-year partnership with RMIT University, HKAC & HKAS offers students a solid academic foundation and invaluable international insights. The future looks promising as HKAS continues to nurture artistic excellence and make meaningful contributions to the global art community.
 
About the Hong Kong Art School:
In 1998, the Hong Kong Arts Centre (HKAC) collaborated with RMIT University to launch its first bachelor's degree in fine art. Building upon the partnership, the Hong Kong Art School (HKAS), a division of the Hong Kong Arts Centre, was founded in 2000. Closely associated with HKAC’s environment and creative enterprises, HKAS offers a unique setting for students to draw on a vast spectrum of artistic practices.
 
HKAS is an accredited institute staffed by a group of dedicated artists and art educators who are active and distinguished practitioners in the field. The HKAS’s award-bearing curriculum focuses mainly on various disciplines of Fine Art, including Ceramics, Painting, Photography and Sculpture. Its scope covers programmes with academic levels ranging from Higher Diploma to Bachelor's Degree. The HKAS's short courses and outreach projects, which run parallel to the award-bearing curriculum, span a wide variety of art disciplines and genuinely bridge art and the community.
