GRANDSLAM by CONDORS -- The highly popular Japanese all-male contemporary dance troupe is coming to town
8-9 March 2013 | Hong Kong Arts Centre Shouson Theatre | 3 Performances Tickets available NOW at all URBTIX outlets!
GRANDSLAM by Condors is one of the Hong Kong Arts Centre’s 35th Anniversary celebration programmes.
Having won new fans all over the world, the Condors brings GRANDSLAM to Hong Kong that made up of short scenes in omnibus style and features commercials, animation film, short plays, live music and, of course, dance on 8-9 March 2013 at the Shouson Theatre of Hong Kong Arts Centre.
Coming in all shapes and sizes and dressed in their trademark Japanese school uniforms, the all-male Condors is famous for their zany mix of comedy sketches, strange films, blasting retro rock music and storytelling, held together with precise calculation by exuberant high-energy dance. The members’ own life experience (their professions include university lecturer, bar owner, martial arts master, rock band player, novelist, yoga teacher) and distinctive characters makes for a quirky and unique take on contemporary dance and performance. Since 1996, Condors have performed regularly to sold-out houses not only in Japan (where they set a theatre record when all tickets were sold in just 14 minutes) but also across the globe, and in the process have won swathes of critical acclaim.
In GRANDSLAM, each scene seems randomly connected, but coming to the end, it will bring back your own nostalgic memories and remind you of the things that are important for life. The many humorous body expressions are unfolding a new style of entertainment, and a new Japanese way of expression. Condors presents a happy-go-lucky performance for you. Like our life should be! Fasten your seat belt and enjoy the ride!
“An irrepressible, irrelevant brunch of nicely ill-assorted sizes and presence, the men were impressive in their comic timing and knowledge of dance styles.” ------ New York Times”
“Nimble and naughty, the much-lauded Condors…wowed audiences with their extraordinary agility and unbridled imagination.” ------ The Straits Times
“Incomparably unique company; that is outreaching Condors. Freshly and easily, the company breaks through the boundary of category and existing concept.” ------ Dance Magazine, Tokyo
